About Brúarfoss
Brúarfoss is famous for its extraordinary electric-blue glacial water — unlike anything else in Iceland. Hidden just off the Golden Circle route, this small but stunning waterfall rewards visitors who make the short hike with one of the most vivid colours found in Icelandic nature. The Brúará river cascades over a series of blue pools and channels carved into smooth grey basalt rock.

History & Background
Brúarfoss — 'Bridge Falls' — takes its name from a natural rock bridge that once crossed the Brúará river at this spot. The bridge has long since eroded, but the name endures. The waterfall sits within the Haukadalur geothermal valley, the same area that contains the famous Geysir and Strokkur geysers. Despite its proximity to one of Iceland's busiest tourist routes, Brúarfoss remained largely unknown until the early 2010s, when it went viral on travel blogs. Today it is still far quieter than the famous Golden Circle landmarks nearby.
