Comida en Islandia — Preguntas frecuentes

Is food expensive in Iceland?

Yes — Iceland is one of the world's most expensive countries for dining out. Expect ISK 2,500–4,500 (€17–30) for a main course at a mid-range restaurant in Reykjavík. Bakeries and fast-casual spots (hotdogs, fish & chips) are more affordable at ISK 500–1,200.

What traditional Icelandic food should I try?

Must-tries include fresh lamb, Arctic char, langoustine soup, skyr, and Icelandic pylsur (hotdogs with all the toppings). Dill in Reykjavík is Iceland's only Michelin-starred restaurant and serves modern New Nordic cuisine.

Do I need to book restaurants in advance?

For popular Reykjavík restaurants — especially Dill, Grillmarket, and Messinn — booking 1–2 days ahead is recommended, particularly during summer (June–August). In smaller towns like Vík and Húsavík, most restaurants accept walk-ins.

Are there vegetarian or vegan options in Iceland?

Reykjavík has a growing plant-based scene with dedicated vegan restaurants and plenty of vegetarian options. Outside the capital, options are more limited — most town restaurants offer at least one vegetarian main.
