Hvassahraunskatlar are unusual lava formations within the flow field of Hrútagjárdyngja. They resemble hornitos or small lava chimneys produced by strong gas release, but are notable because they formed approximately 10 kilometres from the main crater area. Official signage can be reached from Djúpavatnsleið off road 42. The lava surface is fragile and uneven, so visitors should follow established access.
