Svalþúfa is primarily a geological and landscape feature shaped by the volcanic history of Snæfellsnes and long-term coastal erosion. The nearby cliffs and sea stacks show how resistant volcanic rock remains after softer material has been worn away by the Atlantic.

Svalþúfa is a large palagonite headland on the outer Snæfellsnes coast, directly east of Lóndrangar. Its front section, Þúfubjarg, drops steeply toward the sea and gives broad views over the Atlantic and the surrounding volcanic coast. A parking area provides access to a walking route onto the headland. From there the route can be continued through the lava toward Lóndrangar, making Svalþúfa a useful starting point for exploring this section of Snæfellsjökull National Park on foot. The site is exposed to wind and weather, so cliff-edge safety matters even on otherwise calm days.
