„Árið 1946 reistu bændur í Borgarfirði gistiheimili og veitingastað á Bifröst. Sigvaldi Thordarson arkitekt teiknaði húsið og var ráðgert að byggja síðar álmu með hótelherbergjum og lítil gestahús í hrauninu í kring. Sökum fjárskorts tók samvinnuhreyfingin við verkefninu og rak sumarhótel á Bifröst til ársins 1953, þegar ákveðið var að flytja Samvinnuskólann frá Reykjavík á Bifröst. (...) Innviðir aðalbyggingarinnar eru óbreyttir frá upphafi og gefur þar að líta einstakt dæmi um arkitektúr fimmta áratugarins á Íslandi.“
