„Kúvíkur við Reykjarfjörð í Árneshreppi á Ströndum var lengi eini verslunarstaðurinn í allri Strandasýslu, allt þar til Borðeyri við Hrútafjörð var löggiltur verslunarstaður 1846. Allt fram á þessa öld var nokkur byggð í Kúvíkum en hún er nú með öllu horfin, þótt glöggt megi sjá tóftir þeirra húsa sem þar voru.“ Tveir stórir hákarlapottar í túninu eru til minja um miklar hákarlaveiðar í byrjun 20.aldarinnar (1). Danskir kaupmenn kölluðu Kúvíkur gjarnan lýsishöfnina, vegna þess að þaðan kom hákarlalýsi sem notað var til þess að lýsa upp götur stórborga í Evrópu (2). Gönguleið er að Kúvíkum frá þjóðvegi, en upphafsskilti er norðan við Veiðileysuháls (3).
