Kerið is a stunning volcanic crater lake on the Golden Circle, formed about 6,500 years ago when a cone volcano collapsed inward rather than exploding outward. The 55-metre-deep crater is filled with a vivid turquoise-green lake, and the contrast with the deep red volcanic scoria walls makes it one of Iceland's most colourful natural landmarks. A path circles the rim (about 15 minutes) and a trail descends to the lake's edge. Björk held a concert floating on a raft in the middle of the lake in 2004.
