Haukadalur is located on Route 35, about 100 km from Reykjavík and 50 km from Þingvellir. The site has: - Strokkur geyser (erupts every 5-10 min) - Geysir hot spring (mostly dormant) - Dozens of smaller hot springs - Boiling mud pools - Steam vents - Visitor centre, café, hotel Wooden walkways allow safe viewing of the geothermal features. The site is free and accessible year-round.

Haukadalur has been an active geothermal area for thousands of years. The word 'geyser' comes from Geysir, the famous hot spring here that was first documented in 1294. While Geysir is now mostly dormant, Strokkur erupts every 5-10 minutes, shooting water 20-40 metres into the air.
