The present church at Grenjaðarstaður was built in 1865 on a long-established farm and parsonage site. It remains a functioning Lutheran church. The cemetery preserves a medieval runestone, while the neighbouring turf farm became a folk museum in the 20th century.

Grenjaðarstaðarkirkja stands at the historic Grenjaðarstaður farm in Aðaldalur, around 30 kilometres south of Húsavík. The present Lutheran church was built in 1865 and remains in use. Its setting makes the visit especially worthwhile. Grenjaðarstaður is an old settlement and former parsonage, and the neighbouring turf farmhouse is one of the largest preserved examples of its kind in Iceland. The building now houses a folk museum with thousands of objects illustrating rural life in earlier centuries. The churchyard adds another important historical detail: visitors can see a runestone dating from the Middle Ages. Together, the church, cemetery and turf farm create a compact heritage site that shows several layers of religious, domestic and rural history in North Iceland.
