Eyrarfjall is a low mountain in Grundarfjarðarbær on northern Snæfellsnes, close to the coast north of Grundarfjörður. The surrounding area combines low peaks, open coastal terrain and views toward Breiðafjörður. Several unrelated mountains elsewhere in Iceland share the name Eyrarfjall. That name duplication previously caused this attraction to carry coordinates for a Westfjords peak near Ísafjörður. The corrected Snæfellsnes location is approximately 64.99903, -23.17583.

Eyrarfjall is a good example of why Icelandic place names need careful geographic checking: the same mountain name occurs in several parts of the country. The Snæfellsnes Eyrarfjall belongs to the low coastal mountain landscape of Grundarfjarðarbær, not the much higher peaks around Ísafjörður.

The Guardian of Breiðafjörður

Local folklore tells of a benevolent giantess, known as Eyra, who slumbered within Eyrarfjall. It is said she would occasionally stir, her sighs creating the gentle sea breezes that guided fishing boats safely into Stykkishólmur harbor. When storms approached, her deep rumbles warned the villagers, urging them to seek shelter.
