„Eiðar voru stórbýli til forna, höfðingjasetur og kirkjustaður. Árið 1883 var stofnaður þar bændaskóli en honum var breytt í héraðsskóla (Alþýðuskólinn á Eiðum) árið 1918. Skólinn var lagður niður í lok 20. aldar og síðan hafa verið uppi áform að finna þessum sögufræga stað verðug verkefni“ (1). Á Eiðum er að finna friðlýstar fornminjar, tvær hringmyndaðar tóftir, sem þinglýst var árið 1931. Nákvæm staðsetning þeirra er þó ókunn. (2). „Eiðastaður, Eiðastóll og svæðið allt í kringum Eiðavatnið er ægifallegt til útivistar hverskonar“ (3).
