History & Background
Davíðshús var heimili Davíðs Stefánssonar frá Fagraskógi (1895-1964), eins af frægustu skáldum Íslands. Davíð fæddist á Fagraskógi í Eyjafirði og flutti síðar til Akureyrar, þar sem þetta hús varð bústaður hans. Hann var afkastamikill rithöfundur, þekktur fyrir ljóðræn og rómantísk ljóð sín, sem oft sóttu innblástur í íslenska náttúru, þjóðsögur og mannlega tilveru. Ljóðasafn hans "Svartar fjaðrir", gefið út árið 1919, festi orðspor hans sem mikilvægs bókmenntamanns í sessi. Við andlát sitt árið 1964 arfleiddi Davíð Stefánsson húsi sínu, ásamt innihaldi þess og víðtæku bókasafni, til Akureyrarbæjar, með því skilyrði að það yrði opnað almenningi sem safn. Þessi athöfn tryggði að arfleifð hans og umhverfið þar sem hann bjó og starfaði yrði varðveitt fyrir komandi kynslóðir.
