History & Background
Byggðasafnið á Skógum var stofnað árið 1963 af Þórði Tómassyni, sem helgaði líf sitt því að safna og varðveita íslenska menningararfleifð. Megintilgangur safnsins er að sýna fortíð landsins með því að sýna mikið safn af munum og hefðbundnum byggingum. Áberandi byggingar safnsins eru torfbæjarhúsin, sem tákna byggingarhefð sem nær aftur til víkingaaldar.
