Bólugil

Bólugil is a steep and visually impressive canyon in Skagafjörður. The river drops approximately 140 metres through the gorge and forms a sequence of seven small waterfalls, creating a concentrated landscape of cliffs, water and exposed geology. A walking route begins at the end of the gravel road near the bottom of the canyon and follows the gorge upward. The trail finishes at a viewpoint overlooking the waterfalls and the surrounding valley before returning along the same route. The canyon also has a folklore connection: local tradition says that a troll woman named Bóla lived here. That story adds a cultural layer to what is otherwise primarily a geological and hiking attraction. The route is best suited to the snow-free months and should be approached with normal mountain-trail caution despite its relatively easy grading.
