The University of Iceland’s Main Building (Aðalbygging) is an important part of Reykjavík’s twentieth-century architectural and educational history. The university was founded in **1911**, but the Main Building was completed and inaugurated only in **1940** after the institution outgrew its original rooms in Alþingishúsið. The building was designed by Guðjón Samúelsson and remains in use for academic and administrative purposes. Appreciate the architecture from lawful public campus paths and check university policies before entering specific rooms or event spaces.
