Glacier Discovery - Sólheimajökull

This is an informative, safe and guided glacier walk on the Sólheimajökull glacier tongue. Your certified glacier guide will lead you through a frozen wonderland of different shades of glacier ice; white ice, blue ice, and crystal clear ice. You will get to see deep crevasses and meltwater pools in a safe manner, along with other interesting features of the glacier. Once on the ice, this is a straightforward walk suitable for most fitness levels, no glacier experience needed. Getting there and back is the part to prepare for: the access route covers roughly 7 km with about 350 m of elevation change, out and back along the same path, including a climb on the return leg. Expect around 3.5–4 hours of hiking in total, with 2–2.5 hours of that spent exploring the ice itself. During the hike, you will have plenty of photo opportunities and your expert guide will share his wisdom about the ever-changing landscapes of the Icelandic glaciers, their formation and interplay with the surrounding volcanoes and mountains. All necessary glacier equipment is provided, but clients must be fit enough for the activity and dressed for the weather conditions. This is a great way to experience the Icelandic glaciers up close and personal.
