Aurora Experts runs premium small-group northern lights tours from Reykjavík, with a maximum of 18 guests. We saw the lights on 93% of our tours last season.

We are the only northern lights operator in Iceland providing warm winter jumpsuits and outdoor chairs on location, so you can sit and wait in comfort rather than standing in the cold or waiting in a bus. As locals, we take you to our own viewing spots — away from the crowds and the tour buses lined up at the popular pull-offs.

A professional photographer shoots your whole night, and you get the full gallery at no extra cost.

Your guide sets out a spread of traditional Icelandic snacks and drinks while you wait — dried fish, cinnamon rolls, pastries, chocolate, hot cocoa and tea.

Departure times: 9PM in April, August and September. 8PM from 1 October to 31 March.

Witnessing a natural phenomenon like the Northern Lights can be a life-changing experience, but it is NOT one that is always guaranteed. With meticulous attention to detail, our expert team utilizes highly advanced weather, cloud, and aurora forecasts 24/7, backed by satellite images, to enhance your chances of witnessing the lights. In the rare event that unforeseen circumstances obstruct the view, we offer unlimited re-runs that will be valid for two years from the date of your tour. However, the availability of this free re-run will depend on the tours that are currently scheduled.

We reserve the right to cancel the tour as late as 18.30 pm due to weather not being favorable for us. We make a honest decision and e-mail all our guests on the day of the tour at 18.30pm latest to confirm whether the tour is on or off.

How we measure a Northern Lights sighting / non sighting : If you can see the lights with your own naked eyes or only fainted green line for a short time, that is a northern light sighting. Non sighting could be for example if we can only see the lights through our camera, not with our own eyes.

We do not offer refunds, whether partial or full, for tours where a sighting was not possible.
