Kringill

Kringill is a three-part waterfall on the Þambá river in the southern Westfjords. The falls sit below the road and are relatively easy to view, making them a useful stop for travellers already driving through the area. The waterfall is more varied than a single drop. Water moves through several sections before reaching a deep pool in a small gorge below. Around 100 metres farther downstream is another waterfall, Strákafoss, so visitors who take a little extra time can see more than one cascade along the same river. Just upstream from Kringill are small hydroelectric structures, including a small reservoir and concrete works associated with local power generation. These features give the area an unusual combination of natural and human-made details. The site is best appreciated carefully from stable ground; wet rock and the edges around pools and gorges can be slippery. Kringill is not one of the Westfjords' headline waterfalls, but it is a worthwhile short stop for travellers who enjoy discovering smaller features along the route.
