The Helgafell hike begins at the Kaldársel parking area and approaches the mountain over lava terrain. Ferðafélag Íslands documents several marked approaches and a steep rocky gully on one ascent route. The mountain is separate from Helgafell by Mosfellsdalur, so check the route name and trailhead before setting off.
