About Glerárvirkjun nýrri

Gengið er fram á þessa fallegu virkjun þegar gengin er skemmtileg gönguleið um Glerárgil. Virkjunin er í botni gilsins og mögulegt er að fá kynningu á starfsemi virkjunarinnar með því að hafa samband við Norðurorku (1). Glerárvirkjun eldri var reist árið 1922 og var straumi hleypt á Akureyri í lok september sama ár. Virkjunin var endurnýjuð í upphafi 21. aldarinnar og var vatni hleypt á Glerárvirkjun nýrri þann 27. ágúst 2005. Virkjunin var hönnuð af Formi ehf., Verkfræðistofu Norðurlands ehf. og Verkfræðistofunni Raftákn ehf. en aðalhönnuður stöðvarhússins er Ágúst Hafsteinsson arkitekt (2).
