Landbrotalaug
West Iceland
Landbrotalaug is a natural hot spring located in west-iceland. This geothermal pool offers visitors a chance to relax in warm, mineral-rich waters surrounded by Iceland's stunning natural landscape. Perfect for those seeking an authentic Icelandic bathing experience away from the crowds.
Historia
On the eastern edge of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, off Route 54 near the Eldborg crater, a small sign for "Stóra-Hraun" marks a gravel track leading to Landbrotalaug — two modest hot pools hidden behind a low stone wall in an otherwise unremarkable lava field. It is the kind of place you would drive past without a map: no building, no sign at the water's edge, just warm water collecting in a natural hollow in the moss-covered rock. The smaller pool is the real find, barely big enough for two or three people and the warmest of the two; a larger pool nearby, partly fed by hose, holds a slightly cooler, more communal soak. There is nothing else here — no changing hut, no attendant — so what you bring is what you have. That bare-bones simplicity, set against the quiet moorland of West Iceland, is exactly the appeal.
¿Sabías que?
Landbrotalaug is actually two separate pools: a tiny, naturally warm pocket walled with stone that barely fits two or three people, and a larger, hose-fed pool nearby that runs a few degrees cooler.
