Sobre Kerlingarfjöll Hot Spring
Kerlingarfjöll is an active geothermal mountain area, and water temperature and access around natural pools can change. Treat this as a natural highland feature rather than a managed spa: follow local signs and current guidance, test conditions cautiously and never enter water where access is restricted or temperature is uncertain.
Historia
Kerlingarfjöll has long been a significant site within Iceland's rugged landscape, recognized primarily for its geological marvels. This prominent mountain range in the central Icelandic Highlands is renowned for its vibrant geothermal landscapes and the striking hues of its rhyolite peaks, features that have shaped its natural history for millennia. The area's significance stems deeply from its unique geological features, particularly the intense geothermal activity found within valleys like Hveradalir. These natural phenomena, with their steaming vents and colorful mineral deposits, have been a part of the Icelandic wilderness for ages, contributing to the country's rich geological tapestry. While the natural hot springs have existed for centuries, a mountain resort was established in Kerlingarfjöll in the 1950s, marking a more formalized period of accessibility and visitor engagement with this remote highland gem. This development allowed more people to experience and appreciate the extraordinary natural beauty and geothermal wonders of the region, solidifying its role as an important destination in Icelandic culture and tourism.
