About this experience

Join us for a small-group glacier hike on Sólheimajökull, one of Iceland’s most dramatic and accessible outlet glaciers. Traveling in our powerful 4×4 Supertruck on 38" tires, this tour blends hands-on glacier exploration with authentic Icelandic storytelling, natural history, and the unforgettable experience of walking on living ice.

With your certified glacier guide leading the way, you’ll explore crevasses, ice sculptures, deep blue moulins, and ancient layers of ice shaped by centuries of volcanic and climatic forces.

A Journey Into the World of Ice and Fire

Sólheimajökull flows from the massive Mýrdalsjökull ice cap, resting atop an active volcano that has influenced the region for generations. As you step onto the glacier, your guide explains how fire and ice interact here, creating one of the most fascinating landscapes in Iceland.

Stories of Vikings, Volcanoes & Glacier Legends

This is more than a hike — it’s a cultural experience. Along the way, your guide shares tales of Viking settlers who once traveled these harsh lands, myths surrounding the nearby volcano Katla, and the local legends tied to the glacier and surrounding mountains.

Safe, Accessible & Ideal for Beginners

Your guide provides all glacier gear — crampons, helmet, safety harness — along with clear instructions on how to move safely on the ice. No previous glacier experience is required. The pace is comfortable and suitable for most outdoor-loving travelers.

A Living Glacier that Changes Every Day

Sólheimajökull is constantly transforming. New formations appear, old ones fade, and meltwater reveals new layers and shapes. Your guide will show you how to read the glacier, understand its features, and appreciate the story it tells about Iceland’s past and future.

This is an open group tour with a maximum of 14 passengers, offering a social, informative, and safe glacier experience with plenty of personal attention from your guide.

For your comfort and safety, we reserve the right to adjust or cancel the tour due to weather, glacier conditions, or technical issues.
