About this experience

Step ashore in Reykjavík and spend the day discovering the landscapes of the Golden Circle. Explore the rift valley at Þingvellir, watch Strokkur erupt, feel the power of Gullfoss, and admire the colours of Kerið Crater.

Travel with a knowledgeable guide who shares the history and stories behind each stop, with time to explore and take photographs along the way. Pickup from Reykjavík Cruise Port makes it easy to begin your adventure, with a custom pickup time available if needed.

From the Harbour to the Golden Circle

Meet your guide at Reykjavík Cruise Port and settle into a comfortable vehicle. As you leave the harbour behind, city views give way to open countryside and the landscapes that make this route so memorable.

Your first stop is Þingvellir National Park, where centuries of Icelandic history meet the visible effects of the earth’s movement.

Þingvellir: A Landscape with a Story

Walk among rocky cliffs, clear-water fissures, and moss-covered ground at Þingvellir.

Here, the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates slowly move apart, shaping the rift valley around you. This striking setting also became the gathering place for the Alþingi, Iceland’s parliament, established in 930.

Your guide will introduce you to the park’s history as you explore the paths and take in the surrounding scenery.

Geysir: Watch the Earth Come Alive

Continue to the Geysir geothermal area, where drifting steam draws your attention to the hot springs scattered across the ground.

At Strokkur, pause to watch the surface of the water swell before an eruption sends it into the air. The geyser erupts every few minutes, giving you the chance to enjoy the spectacle and capture the moment.

Along the surrounding paths, discover steaming vents and bubbling springs that reveal Iceland’s geothermal energy.

Gullfoss: The Rush of the River

Next, visit Gullfoss, where the Hvítá river cascades over two drops before rushing into a deep canyon.

Follow the viewing paths to see how the waterfall changes with each perspective. Listen to the roar, watch the spray rise from the gorge, and look for rainbows when sunlight reaches the mist.

Take your time to appreciate one of the Golden Circle’s most impressive sights.

Kerið: A Colourful Last Stop

At Kerið Crater, red volcanic slopes frame a blue lake, creating a vivid contrast with the landscapes you have already explored.

Enjoy the views into the crater and hear about its volcanic origins. There is time to pause for photographs and appreciate the colours and textures before the drive back to Reykjavík.

Back to the Harbour

After your final stop, relax on the return journey to Reykjavík Cruise Port.

Arrive back with photographs, new stories, and memories of a day spent exploring Iceland’s historic valleys, geothermal springs, waterfalls, and volcanic scenery.
