Stöng í Þjórsárdal

The buried remains at Stöng provide unusually detailed evidence of medieval Icelandic farm life. Archaeologists have identified the farmhouse, cowshed, smithy and later a church and graveyard. A separate reconstruction, Þjóðveldisbærinn, was built elsewhere in Þjórsárdalur to interpret this style of farmstead.
