Hringsjáin var sett upp af sjálfboðaliðum í Ferðafélagi Íslands en félagið hefur haft forgöngu um uppsetningu á a.m.k. 15 hringsjám vítt og breitt um landið. Markmiðið með verkefninu er að auðvelda fólki að læra nöfn fjalla og annarra kennileita (1). Af Miðmorgunsöldu, sem er eyktarmark frá Tjarnarkoti, er útsýni yfir allt innanvert vatnasvæði Veiðivatna (2).
