History & Background

The Ljóskastarahús, or "Projector House," itself dates back to the early 20th century, serving as an auxiliary structure to a nearby lighthouse, housing equipment or providing quarters for its dedicated keepers. In an era before modern navigation, these coastal outposts were vital lifelines, guiding sailors through treacherous waters. The isolated nature of such positions fostered a rich environment for folklore and supernatural tales, as keepers spent long, lonely hours amidst the elements. Over the decades, as technology advanced and lighthouses became automated, many of these ancillary buildings fell into disuse or were repurposed. The Ljóskastarahús, however, retained its mystique, becoming less a functional building and more a landmark of local legend.
