Laufrönd er staðsett í S-Þingeyjarsýslu. Svæðið er á náttúruminjaskrá Norðausturlands og nær friðunin yfir gróðurlendi í vesturjaðri Ódáðahrauns milli Laufrandar og Hraunár sunnan frá Steinfelli norður fyrir Neðribotna. Svæðinu er lýst sem gróðursælu umhverfi tjarna og lindavatna og er í 700-800 m h.y.s. Þar finnst einnig sérstætt fuglalíf.
