Köldukvíslarbotnar eru gróðurlaus auðn, naktir hnjúkar á aðra hönd en jökull á hina og um dalbotninn byltast jökulkvíslar um gráa aurana. Þeir eru í 800-900 m h.y.s. og þar finnst nokkur jarðhiti. Köldukvíslarbotnar voru fyrrum taldir ein mesta útilegumannabyggð landsins“.
