Hvítárvatn is a Highland lake at the eastern side of Langjökull and a defining landscape feature on the Kjölur and old Kjalvegur routes. It is a lake, not a glacier. The area is remote and seasonal, with the protected 1930 Hvítárnes hut and a designated campsite nearby. Travellers should distinguish the lake itself from Hvítárnes, the hut-and-campsite location used by hikers on Kjalvegur hinn forni.
