Hamarsrétt boasts an ancient lineage, with archaeological evidence of old stone structures visible within its unique beachfront setting. For centuries, this site has served as a crucial gathering point for farmers on the Vatnsnes peninsula. Each autumn, the traditional sheep round-up, or 'réttir', takes place here, bringing together generations of farmers to sort their flocks after they have grazed freely in the mountains throughout the summer. The area's historical significance extends beyond farming. South of Hamarsrétt lies Kallhamar, a prominent cliff whose name, "cliff of calling," reflects its vital role in the region's maritime history. In earlier times, when fishing was a dominant industry on Vatnsnes, this cliff served as a natural communication hub. People would ascend Kallhamar to signal or call out to boats at sea, relaying messages or guiding them to shore. Further south of Kallhamar, visitors can still explore the ruins of old fishing huts, providing tangible links to the once-thriving fishing settlements and coastal activities that characterized this part of Iceland.

Hamarsrétt stands as one of Iceland's most uniquely situated sheep folds, nestled directly on the beach on the western side of the Vatnsnes peninsula in North Iceland. This ancient site, with its visible old stone structures, serves as a testament to generations of Icelandic farming traditions.
