Blesi's history is intrinsically linked to the broader geological narrative of Iceland. Situated in the Haukadalur valley, a key part of the famed Geysir geothermal field, it stands as a vivid testament to the island's position directly on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. This geological hotspot has shaped Iceland's landscape for millennia, giving rise to countless hot springs like Blesi. For over a thousand years, long before the concept of geothermal energy became globally recognized, these natural hot springs were integral to Icelandic life. Locals utilized the abundant heat from sources like Blesi for essential daily tasks, including bathing, cooking, and heating their homes. While Blesi itself might not have been a primary bathing spot due to its specific characteristics, its existence contributed to the understanding and utilization of geothermal resources that shaped the culture and survival of early Icelandic settlers. Blesi consists of adjoining geothermal pools within the Geysir geothermal field. Unlike Strokkur, Blesi is appreciated mainly for the colour of its water and the mineral deposits around the pools rather than for regular eruptions. The ground in the geothermal area can be dangerously hot and unstable, so visitors should remain on marked paths and behind barriers.
