Practical Tips
Nightlife Tips & Info
When to Go Out
Reykjavík nightlife starts late — bars fill up around 11pm–midnight. Clubs open around midnight and stay open until 4–5am on weekends. Locals often pre-drink at home before heading out.
Prices & Budget
Alcohol is expensive in Iceland. Beer costs around 1,000–1,500 ISK (~$7–11). Many bars offer happy hour deals between 4–7pm. Most places accept card payments.
Getting Around
Downtown Reykjavík is very walkable — most bars and clubs are within a 10-minute walk along Laugavegur and surrounding streets. Taxis are available but can be pricey late at night.
Dress Code
Most bars have a casual dress code but clubs may require smart casual (no sportswear or trainers). Icelanders dress stylishly when going out. Check your coat at the door — cloakrooms are common.
