Reykholt – Snorri Sturluson's Monastery

About Reykholt – Snorri Sturluson's Monastery

Reykholt was the home of Snorri Sturluson (1179–1241), Iceland's most famous medieval scholar, poet and historian. Author of the Prose Edda (the primary source for Norse mythology) and Heimskringla (a history of Norwegian kings), Snorri was one of the most important writers of the Middle Ages. His private hot pool (Snorralaug) — one of Iceland's oldest man-made structures — is still preserved. The Snorrastofa research centre and exhibition covers his life and works.
