Dettifoss Waterfall
About Dettifoss Waterfall
Dettifoss is Europe's most powerful waterfall and one of Iceland's most awe-inspiring natural wonders. The Jökulsá á Fjöllum river drops 44 metres over a 100-metre-wide basalt cliff in Jökulsárgljúfur canyon, pushing 193 m³ of glacial water per second into the canyon below. The roar and the spray are overwhelming even at a distance. The opening scene of Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' (2012) was filmed at Dettifoss. Both the east and west banks have viewing platforms connected to Route 1 via paved roads.
