About Þórsmörk
Þórsmörk is one of the most interesting natural attractions in highlands of Iceland.
📖 Story
Þórsmörk — 'Forest of Þór' — is a hidden mountain valley where three glaciers meet and Iceland's most sheltered and fertile highland environment has created actual birch woodland — rare in Iceland. The name honours Þór, Norse god of thunder, a fitting patron for this dramatic setting between Eyjafjallajökull, Mýrdalsjökull and Tindfjallajökull glaciers. Þórsmörk is the end point of the Laugavegur trek and the start of the Fimmvörðuháls pass to Skógafoss. The valley has deep gorges, swing bridges, viewpoints and forest walks that could fill three days. Getting here requires a 4×4 or the Reykjavík Excursions Highland Bus — the river crossings are serious and not for regular vehicles.
