Þingeyri is a small town on Dýrafjörður in the central Westfjords, one of Iceland's oldest trading posts and home to Iceland's oldest sports club (Fram, founded 1895). The area is deeply connected to the Westfjords Sagas. A Viking-age themed village on the outskirts offers Viking-era accommodation and activities. The town has a historic church, a small museum and access to excellent hiking on the nearby Sandfell mountain ridge, with panoramic fjord views.
