About Siglufjörður – Herring Capital
Siglufjörður is one of Iceland's most picturesque towns, tucked into the tip of a narrow fjord in the Tröllaskagi peninsula. In the early 20th century it was Iceland's most important fishing town and the world's largest herring fishing station. The Herring Era Museum (Síldarminjasafnið) covers this remarkable history in three restored buildings and is one of Iceland's best museums, winner of the European Museum of the Year award. The town now also has excellent downhill and cross-country skiing.
