About Perlan
Perlan ("The Pearl") is one of Reykjavík's most distinctive landmarks, a glass-domed building sitting atop Öskjuhlíð hill. Originally built in 1991 to store geothermal hot water in six massive cylindrical tanks, Perlan has been transformed into an interactive museum focusing on Iceland's natural wonders. The building now houses the award-winning Wonders of Iceland exhibition, featuring the country's first indoor ice cave, interactive displays on glaciers, volcanoes, geothermal energy, and bird cliffs. The fourth-floor observation deck offers 360-degree panoramic views of Reykjavík, the surrounding mountains, and the ocean, making it one of the best viewpoints in the city. A revolving restaurant once occupied the dome but has since been converted to additional exhibition space. The surrounding Öskjuhlíð area features walking paths through one of Reykjavík's few forested areas, perfect for combining nature and culture.
