📖 Story

When Vikings established Alþingi (Iceland's parliament) at Þingvellir in 930 AD, they needed fresh water for the annual gathering. Legend says they diverted the Öxará river to cascade through the assembly grounds. Today Öxarárfoss remains one of Þingvellir's prettiest features — a waterfall tumbling through the rift valley where continents pull apart.
