These remarkable medieval texts were written in Iceland during the 13th and 14th centuries, preserving oral histories and stories from the Viking Age settlement of Iceland (9th–11th centuries). The sagas describe real people, places, and events, making locations like Neðri-Botn (nú Litlibotn) living connections to Iceland's deep past. Many of these saga sites can still be visited today, standing as silent witnesses to the dramatic events recorded in the ancient texts. From the saga: "En um vorið keypti hann land í Neðra-Botni og færði þangað bú sitt og var allgagnsamt. (19) Það sumar er Geir bjó fyrst í Botni kom út sá maður er Ormur hét á Vikarsskeiði við Þjórsá. (19) Indriði lét þar eftir lið sitt en fór við þriðja mann og sótti Þorbjörgu heim í Botn. Hann fór Jórukleif og svo til Grímsstaða og þaðan Botnsheiði og svo í Botn. (22) Litlu síðar fór Hörður í Botn með allt sitt til Geirs fóstbróður síns. (22) Þá hafði Hörður sextán vetur og tuttugu er hann féll í útlegð og hann fór í Botn. (22) Víst mun Torfi treysta tandrauðra Nílsanda, hæðinn höldur að ríði heim í Botn að gotnum. (22) Og er þeir komu heim í Botn líkaði Herði allilla og kveðst á burt skyldu ef þeir vildu stela. (24) Öll voru hús upp tekin í Botni að viðum og flutt út í Hólm. (25) Þórður köttur fór með honum en er þeir komu í dalinn sáu þeir að fé var rekið norður um fell er stendur á milli Brynjudals og Botns."
