The sagas describe real people, places, and events, making locations like Leirvogsá living connections to Iceland's deep past. Many of these saga sites can still be visited today, standing as silent witnesses to the dramatic events recorded in the ancient texts. From the saga: "En er hann kom af Leiruvogsá þá gerði honum kalt mjög og stirðnaði hann. (9) Kolfinnur sneri til stofu og gekk að pallinum þar sem Búi sat og mælti: „Tveir eru þér kostir gerðir,“ sagði Kolfinnur, „sá annar að þú léttir komum hingað með öllu, hinn annar að þú gakk á hólm við mig á morgun í hólmi þeim er liggur suður í Leiruvogsá.“ (10) Nú líður á veturinn og gerast gróin sár Kolfinns og þá mælti hann: „Nú mun eg fara að finna móður mína og fá mér þaðan menn en Grímur son þinn skal vera á morgun fyrir mér við Leiruvogsá og þeir menn sem þú sendir til liðs við mig.“"
