Kvernufoss is accessed via a short path from Skógar Museum (about 5-minute walk). The trail follows the Kverná river and is easy to follow. The path behind the waterfall can be muddy and slippery — wear waterproof boots. The alcove behind the falls offers stunning views of the cascade and surrounding landscape.

Kvernufoss is named after an old water mill ('kvern') that once stood near the falls. The waterfall is less famous than Skógafoss but equally beautiful, with a path that leads behind the cascade into a cave-like alcove.
