Hraunfossar Waterfalls
About Hraunfossar Waterfalls
Hraunfossar (Lava Falls) is a series of waterfalls flowing out from beneath an ancient lava field over a distance of nearly 1 km along the banks of the Hvítá river. Crystal-clear water seeps through the porous basalt and cascades directly into the river in hundreds of small falls with no visible source. Just upstream, Barnafoss (Children's Falls) is a powerful canyon waterfall with a legend of two children who fell from a stone arch bridge. One of Iceland's most unique geological wonders.
