📖 Story

Hengill is an active volcanic system that last erupted about 2,000 years ago. The mountain sits on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet. The geothermal area is harnessed by the nearby Hellisheiði and Nesjavellir power plants, but much of the landscape remains wild and untouched.
