Fáskrúðsfjörður – French Fishermen's Town
Acerca de Fáskrúðsfjörður – French Fishermen's Town
Fáskrúðsfjörður has a unique dual Icelandic-French cultural identity, stemming from the thousands of French deep-sea fishermen who used the fjord as a base from the 1880s to 1930s. The French hospital, cemetery and consul's house still stand, and the village's road signs are bilingual (Icelandic-French). A small museum (Fransmenn á Íslandi) covers this forgotten chapter of European maritime history. The fjord was featured in the Netflix film 'Rams' (2020).
