Story & Folklore

In the 18th and 19th centuries, Eyrarbakki was Iceland's most important trading town, with Danish merchants establishing warehouses and homes here. The village declined when Reykjavík grew as a port, but its historic architecture has been preserved. The museum 'Húsið' ('The House') is located in one of Iceland's oldest buildings (1765) and showcases life in the trading era.
