The sagas describe real people, places, and events, making locations like Esjuberg living connections to Iceland's deep past. Many of these saga sites can still be visited today, standing as silent witnesses to the dramatic events recorded in the ancient texts. From the saga: "Kjalnesinga saga (2) Settist hún þá að Esjubergi. (3) Esja bjó að Esjubergi sem fyrr var sagt. (3) Hún bauð til fósturs Búa syni Andríðs og fæddist hann upp að Esjubergi. (5) Þorgrímur reið með flokk þenna til Esjubergs. (17) Búi reið þá til Esjubergs og var Esja fóstra hans enn á lífi. (17) Búi tók þá við búi á Esjubergi og setti þar á rausnarbú. (17) Eftir brullaupið um sumarið fór Helga til Esjubergs með Búa. (17) Búi bjó á Esjubergi tólf vetur og átti mikið rausnarbú. (18) Reið hann síðan suður um land og er ekki fyrr frá hans ferð sagt en hann kom aftan dags til Esjubergs. (18) Helga Þorgrímsdóttir bjó að Esjubergi með börnum þeirra Búa. (18) Þá stóð enn kirkja sú að Esjubergi er Örlygur hafði látið gera. (18) Sú hin sama járnklukka hékk þá fyrir kirkjunni á Esjubergi er Árni biskup réð fyrir stað, Þorláksson, og Nikulás Pétursson bjó að Hofi, og var þá slitin af ryði.Laxdæla saga (3) Helgi bjólan kom skipi sínu fyrir sunnan land og nam Kjalarnes allt á milli Kollafjarðar og Hvalfjarðar og bjó að Esjubergi til elli."
