Djúpalónssandur Black Pebble Beach
About Djúpalónssandur Black Pebble Beach
Djúpalónssandur is a hauntingly beautiful black pebble beach in Snæfellsjökull National Park, framed by jagged lava formations and dramatic sea stacks. The beach was once home to over 60 fishing boats and four lifting stones were used to test the strength of prospective crew members (ranging from 23 to 154 kg). Rusted wreckage from the British trawler Epine, wrecked here in 1948, still scatters the beach. A short trail leads down through a lava archway.
