📖 Story
There are two sides to Dettifoss: west (F-road, closer view) and east (paved road, more accessible). The east viewpoint on Route 864 allows any car to visit Europe's most powerful waterfall year-round. You walk 1.5 km from parking to the canyon rim where Dettifoss thunders 44 metres down. The viewpoint is slightly farther from the falls but still spectacular — gray glacial water plunging into the canyon with massive spray. Upriver: Selfoss waterfall. Downriver: Hafragilsfoss canyon. All accessible from east side trails.
